6pm

It’s almost 6pm, and I’m exhausted! I didn’t sleep well last night. I finally passed out around 2:15am. I couldn’t get out of bed til after 10am. Not good. The cats were pissed!

After breakfast and some job hunting, I jogged 2 miles on the elliptical, which was great! Lyse & I then called my grandma to wish her a happy birthday. She’s 79 today. She’s not feeling well. I wish I could fly to FL to visit her.

At 2pm, I had an interview with a staffing agency. Ugh! They made me take those MS Office and typing tests. No shortcuts or right-clicking allowed! Not remembering where certain tasks were filed, I had to click on a few menus first… nope, not allowed. “INCORRECT” Bah! I still passed, but not with my normal 99%. Once I finally got to meet with the Manager, she rushed me through the interview to take a call from a candidate. I had less than 2 minutes with her, in which she told me she pretty much ONLY gets Exec Assistant positions. Overall, I felt like it was a waste of time, but who knows. I’ll still call in twice a week to see if there are any Project Management positions.

Once home, I did some job hunting, talked to my old boss, Bob, from Disney Stores, and ended up falling asleep for 20 minutes during Lou Dobbs Tonight.

Right now, I’m just sitting here, at the computer, in front of the TV. Larry King is interviewing Priscilla Presley. It’s amazing that people still talk about Elvis so much these days. 30+ years after I’m dead, I don’t think anyone will remember me at all. I was the first Town Clerk of Southwest Ranches, FL; but, who remembers staff? Most people remember Council members with memorials and things, but not staff.

I think I’ll watch “The Other Boleyn Girl” tonight. I’ve been wanting to see it, and I’m not in the mood to edit pix or go anywhere. I’m in a good mood, just tired.

I’m looking forward to my interview tomorrow! I hope they offer me the job tomorrow night and pay me what I want! Send good thoughts!

What Day is It?

I woke up this morning and headed to a staffing agency in Arcadia for an interview. They really like me, and they didn’t make me take those annoying Office tests. They don’t get Project Management positions often, but now I’m on file… so, we’ll see!

I had lunch with Bobby, then spent the next two hours on the phone with the IRS and Primerica due to a tax error on my 2007 filing that I didn’t know about. It wasn’t my fault or my accountant’s. It was Primerica’s fault, and they are going to fix it; but, it will take some paperwork and a few more phone calls. Very annoying!

I picked up John at work, we had dinner, watched the Simpsons, played Tetris, then I took him to the airport. He’s heading to NY to visit his family. He arrives around 5am East Coast time.

Once home, I did some job hunting; and, amazingly, someone was working late in HR at a company I applied for earlier this week! It wasn’t just any job, it’s a job that really stood out to me, one I am really excited about!!! I was so happy to get an email inviting me for an interview on Friday! Wish me luck! I am not sure what the job pays, but I hope they will keep my current rate. It’s a Brand Coordinator position, and it looks great. From the description, I seem to be a perfect fit! I’m super excited!

After that, I tried to watch a movie, but my cable had a glitch. I had to reset the box (which takes 20 min); so, I went online and played Mario Kart Wii. Man, those people are good! I lost hundreds of points in less than 20 minutes! I did come in 3rd on Maple Treeway, but I came in 2nd or 3rd to last in most of the races. I was in 1st for a while on a few courses, but that never lasts very long!

After the cable came back, I watched The Bucket List. It was an excellent movie. I really enjoyed the characters, story, and tone of the movie. I liked that Jack Nicholson’s character surprised me. I expected him to be different than he turned out to be.

I’m now watching Malcolm in the Middle and typing this blog entry. I didn’t walk today, no time! I’ll walk 1.5 miles tomorrow and Friday to make up for it!

I’m not tired, but I should go to sleep soon. When I’m unemployed, I become a true night owl. I feel so energized at night. I was always this way… I remember nights in high school that didn’t end til the sun came up!

Anyhow, tomorrow I have an interview (and testing) with another staffing agency. It never hurts to be registered with a lot of places!

A New Day

I woke up at 9:30am today, which is good for me since I’ve been going to sleep after 2am almost every night. I started job hunting immediately, having some cereal during a quick break.

I sent resumes and emailed recruiters until 3pm, stopping quickly for lunch around 1pm. I cuddled with Gracie for a short bit after a long day of job hunting, then I locked the cats up in the bedroom and walked a 20 minute mile up hill on my elliptical. It really wore me out. I am so out of shape! Geeesh!

I then did 48 crunches on my Ab Rocker thingy (4 sets of 12 – upper, lower, right side, left side). I got a shower, then went right back to job hunting. Though I haven’t heard from any companies yet, I feel it was a productive day. I hope that my efforts pay off. I am working really hard, and I want to see success in my career and health sooner than later!

Wish me luck!

Week Day, Weekend, Same Thing…

When you are unemployed, it’s hard to tell the weekends from the week days – especially when your partner is off work on vacation.

I spent the last week sick with an awful flu. I am recovering well, but am still a bit light-headed and weak. I can’t believe it’s already a week into January!

John & I have been home most of the week. He had a few days of work thrown in, but I was too sick to function; so, I spent my days in bed or in front of the TV. I watched a lot of movies this past week, most I’ve seen before. When I’m sick, the TV and the cats are my best friends. John was recovering faster, so spent some time writing and reading. I was unable to do much of anything.

Of the movies I watched, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry was one of them. I thought it was pretty funny. It wasn’t great, and won’t go down in my book as an Adam Sandler classic, but it was fun.

Last night, I was feeling good enough to go out, so John & I met up with Lyse, KC, and David at the Century 8 to see Yes Man. This movie was surprisingly funny. It was better than expected, and I must admit that I had pretty low expectations. It wasn’t overly “Jim Carey” which was one of my worries. The commercials portray it as a true “Jim Carey” movie, but it’s just a fun comedy.

Today, John & I slept in really late (12:30pm). I vacuumed while John ran out for a bit, then we went for a walk around the residential areas of Glendale when he returned. It’s been a lazy day otherwise – more movies. Right now, Sweeney Todd is on.

What I need is motivation to do productive things like exercise, clean, work on my photography business, take care of paperwork, etc. I am motivated to job hunt, which I do daily. Even on weekends, I check the job boards.

I feel this year officially starts tomorrow, as that is when people go back to work. I hope that will help me with my motivation. I am going to call a bunch of recruiters tomorrow, job hunt, and HOPEFULLY go for a mile walk (either on my elliptical or outside). I’d like to walk a mile a day, 5 days a week; or, if I walk 2 miles in one day, I can skip a day somewhere. Once I have a job, I may have to adjust this. We’ll see.

For now, if you see me online and it’s between 3 and 6pm, tell me to take a walk!

Welcome 2009!

Dear 2009,

I am glad you are finally here! I hope you bring great success to my friends, my family, and me. I hope you open a window for me to crawl through. I hope the light on the other side of it is bright! I hope for economic stability for this great Country, and I hope for true and life long happiness for all of my friends and family!

Dearest 2009, even if you can’t bring all of these things, show us some hope that success is just around the corner! I look forward to the great memories I will make with John, Lyse, and our kitties. I look forward to seeing my friends and family in FL in December. I look forward to seeing my Camp-Out friends in Pioneertown in September, and hopefully going to Sedona in October!

I hope for stable and good health for my kitties. Aurora & Dagan are doing quite well considering they both have kidney failure. John & I have worked very hard this past year to get their health and strength up, and we’ve done a great job! They seem like perfectly healthy older cats!

I also hope that Gracie learns to stay out of the kitchen and off the counters. I hope that Sandy learns how to take down Gracie in a play-fight too!

As for photography, I am thankful that I booked a reception on the 10th of January! I am hopeful that I will have many more bookings this year than last! I also hope to pay off my business AmEx by the 0% expiration in early April, then buy myself the new 5D Mark II!

I also hope to perform many more ceremonies for couples in this coming year. I love weddings, and I am hoping to step up my officiating in 2009!

I hope all of your dreams and wishes for 2009 come true for you as well! Happy New Year everyone!

Down with the Sickness

Yesterday, mid-day, I performed a small, beautiful wedding for a wonderful couple in Beverly Hills, then I drove to Newport Beach to my friend, Glenn’s place.

I hung out with Glenn and his cousin, God (from Israel) for a few hours, then Glenn & I drove down to Solana Beach, picking up Korine on the way. We met up with friends, Denny, Ellie & Pammy at the restaurant next to the Belly Up. Dinner was excellent. Johnny, Greg, Sal and Victor were at the table next to us. We said our hello’s to them when they were done with dinner.

Once inside the Belly Up, I met up with April & Edgar on “Rock Star Right” as April calls it (just below Johnny’s spot). We usually hang to the center a bit more (between David & Johnny – Cracker / David & Greg – Camper).

Camper’s set was excellent! I enjoyed every moment of it! Cracker’s set was also phenomenal. They opened with “Friends” too, which is always fun! Lots of dancing, singing along, and watching these amazing musicians play made for an incredible show! Denny & Ellie were just behind April & I. It was a great little group we had going!

After the show, we said our hello’s and good-bye’s to Frank and Johnny. Sal hung out with me for a bit. He’s such a great guy, and an amazingly talented musician! Ellie, Denny, Glenn, Korine and I closed the venue. We waved to (and said “thanks”) to David on the way out. He’s not overly social, which is fine.

After the show, Glenn & I dropped off Korine, then headed back to his place. I got my things and headed out. I wasn’t feeling very well (thought it was allergies). My sinuses were really bothering me.

By the time I got to Glendale, I had to stop at CVS. I was deeply ill. I was starting to feel aches and pains and congestion. I got some night and day meds, then came home and passed out.

Today, I woke up in severe pain. I slept most of the day, talking online to Leilani and Erica for a short bit. I have been laying down almost all day, with chills and sweats, sinus pain and a sore throat. Talking to Vivienne and John’s mom, it appears that I have the flu. Where the hell did I get this from?! John doesn’t even have the flu. He has a sore throat and cough. He’s functional. I couldn’t even sit up earlier. I felt weak and light-headed, and kept feeling like I was going to fall over.

Right now, John ran out to get me my prescription of TamiFlu. I’m watching Storm Chasers and drinking Bengal Spice tea with honey. My face and back hurt, a lot. I really am not looking forward to spending the New Year in bed. I’m sad I’m going to miss all the parties. 🙁

Eggcellent Salad Sandwich

I made egg salad for the first time ever, and it came out awesome! Here’s how it goes:

Ingredients
6 eggs (older eggs peel better, but make sure they haven’t gone bad)
1 Medium Celery Stalk
2 Tbsp Light Mayo
1 Tbsp Brown, Spicy Mustard
1 Tbsp Pickle Relish (from a jar)
1/2 Tbsp Dill Weed (from the spice rack)
Dash(es) Seasoned Salt – just enough for your liking

Directions
1. Hard boil the eggs (make sure they float standing up in water, or wait a few more days til they do). Click here on how to hard-boil.
2. For lower cholesterol egg salad, peel eggs, then pop open 3 eggs and toss out the yolks.
3. Dice up eggs and put in a bowl.
4. Add light mayo, relish, mustard and dill weed; mix.
5. Dice up celery stalk and mix in.
6. Add some seasoned salt.
7. Put in fridge for at least an hour before serving. Enjoy!

This is great on toasted whole wheat bread with fresh spinach and tomato.

Christmas in Glendale

John & I had a very nice Christmas this year. We got to video conference with his family, which was awesome; and, we enjoyed a really nice few days together!

On Christmas Day, we hung out at home most of the day, opened our gifts, and then went to see the Curios Case of Benjamin Button. It was really freakin’ good. I highly recommend it. It never felt slow, even though it was almost 3 hours long. The story was really engaging and told very well.

John’s family got me After Hours by WAS, Sleeping Beauty Deluxe Edition DVD and a Wave Wireless Keyboard and Mouse! John got me Don’t Mess with the Zohan and a Mogwai t-shirt. My grandma gave me $50, which I spent $20 of already. I bought a Cracker / Camper ticket for the show near San Diego. I’m really excited about it! It’s on the 29th. I like to try to do fun things on Dec 29th, as it’s the day my mom died (15 years ago) and I don’t want to be depressed. I can’t believe it’s been 15 years! Wow. I miss her so much!

Anyhow, after the movie, John made us dinner (rice and veggie stir fry), and we played Tetris. We were going to go out to dinner, but most restaurants were closed on Christmas; so, we went to dinner on the 26th instead.. We ended up at Granville Cafe at the Americana. The food was amazing! We also had nutella and strawberry crepes for dessert from the Crepe Maker in front of Barnes & Noble (which we snuck in to eat the crepes). It was really cold last night!

Today, I cleaned a bit, then put up the rest of the photos from the Tahoe Trip. I also put up some cute kitty pix and Christmas / Hanukkah pix as well.

Below are some videos of us driving through a snow storm. Scary!

Sunny Days in Tahoe

Tuesday – Woke up somewhat early, hung out with Jean-Marie & Steve while John slept in a bit. Then, we all went out to find some winter stuff for John & I (which we will be returning, since we won’t be skiing). We then drove all over South Lake Tahoe looking for a place to play on our sleds.

After a few hours, a lunch at Subway, and even more searching, we finally found one, less than a mile from our Timeshare! We played until the snow began (less than 30 min), then headed back to the Timeshare to relax a bit. For dinner, we went to Villa Roma and hung out there, eating and chatting.

Once back at the timeshare, we hung out for a bit, then watched TV and passed out.

Wednesday – Woke up at 8am, got ready to leave, but didn’t end up leaving til almost 11am. Drove to Tahoe City (the long way – around the lake Counter Clockwise. Had lunch at Rosie’s (yum), then spent some time in an awesome jewelry store, talking to one of the owners. On the way back (Clockwise), we stopped at various look-outs along the lake.

I finally found the beautiful area I’ve been dreaming about for years… Logan Shoals! I saw a wedding there many years ago, and I never found this area since! John & I got there just before sunset, so couldn’t stay long. We’ll be going back before we leave on Sunday!

After the drive, we came back to the timeshare. Jean-Marie & Steve were back from a wonderful day at Heavenly! We had some dinner (left-overs and frozen meals) and then played Taboo and Scrabble. It was a fun day!

Tomorrow, John & I are going to see if the Heavenly Flyer is open. If not, we’ll drive around some more, take pix and maybe snow play! A snow-storm is expected to start tomorrow, so it looks like Friday is a day in.

Dec 15 2008

Lake TaSnow

Saturday – Dec 13
John & I left Glendale on Saturday at 11am, driving across the 14 to 395. We stopped for lunch in Mojave at the Smokehouse Cafe. It was a bit greasy, but ok. The sun was shining, but we could see rain nearby. The temperatures were dropping, but that didn’t bother me. When we left the diner, we noticed an odd car parked next to ours. It was full of trash! The only room to sit was the driver’s seat. I think the man at the bar counter inside the restaurant was the owner. I only saw him from the back. He had a very wrinkly tan hand; and, when a fly landed on it, he didn’t shake it off. Very odd.

Once on 395, we drove by Pearsonville (and I started to really miss the Night Photography workshop I took there in October)!. It was a full moon weekend, so I was wondering if Troy and Joe were out there! I didn’t call to ask.

We drove up to Bishop, where we got a hotel for the night. We stayed at the Best Western Creekside. Great hotel! I would highly recommend it! We walked over to the nearby Japanese restaurant for dinner. It was about 30 degrees out. My vegetarian sushi was good. The hotel was so comfy. It was a good spot to stop on the way!

Sunday – Dec 14
In the morning, we had Deluxe Continental Breakfast at the hotel, then headed out towards Tahoe. The weather kept dropping, especially over 6,000 feet. We stopped at Crowley Lake for gasoline, then in some cute little town for a late lunch at Rhino’s Bar & Grille in Bridgeport. My grilled cheese was ok, but it was a really cool place. If I lived there, I’d go for drinks at this bar!

Once we turned onto 207, we started to rise in elevation again. That’s when we encountered some snow. It was light and drivable. It got a bit stronger as we got into Tahoe. We checked in at 3pm, then went to Railey’s for groceries. Glad we got back to the room before the snow really came down! My car was covered in no time!

At 7pm, we went to the Solarium for the Welcome Meeting. We were the only guests there, but enjoyed talking to Alaina about Tahoe. We hung out there for a bit, then came back to the room and relaxed.

Monday – Dec 15
I woke up at 7:15am from the sound of the wind and some lousy dreams about work and my friend Keith (who I haven’t seen since he became a famous rock star). I wish he was still the Keith I knew in high school, but I am happy for his band’s success. I think I got stuck in a reminiscing loop about high school and where everyone is today. I am so happy I have such great friends to this very day from back then! I’ve made some great friends in my life!

I stayed up editing pix and watching TV. The snow came down really hard, and I didn’t go back to sleep. John finally got up around 11am, and we got showers and ate breakfast. After breakfast, we wandered to the lobby to send some mail. We looked at the car, wow! There was over a foot of snow on top of it… maybe two!

A little later, Jean-Marie & Steve arrived. They flew in from Orlando. We went to lunch at Sprouts (yum), then stopped at Safeway to get a few things. I bought packing tape so that I could hang some Christmas lights and also make a safe-bag for my camera (to protect it from the snow). I’ll work on that tomorrow.

Jean-Marie & Steve passed out around 6:30pm. John & I hung out in our room watching Cat People and Cats 101 on Animal Planet. I also posted pix from the past few weeks. See links below:

* John & Greg’s Birthday (Springbok Pix)
* Avila Beach Trip for John’s Birthday
* Karaoke at Koji’s
* Thanksgiving with John, Dad & Grandma
* Dad
* Anne’s Visit to LA
* Pix of My Hottie
* Janis’ Birthday
* Gracie’s High-Jumps
* Beautiful Black-Bearded Dagan
* Adorable Aurora
* Pretty Sandy
* Day 1 and 2 of Our Tahoe Trip

More to come soon! Tomorrow, we are planning on playing in the snow! 🙂

Not Just Another Day

Tomorrow, John & I leave for Tahoe. We had a great week planned out for us. We wanted to go skiing, snowmobiling, and have some good dinners out. Well, I am not sure how much we’ll be doing now… I got laid off again. This is the 3rd time this year.

I am absolutely devastated. I was looking forward to this vacation so much, now I am dreading the days spent worried about not having a job to come back to. Right now, the economy is so bad that most companies aren’t hiring. Those that are, are paying far less than people can really live on. I really loved working at DCP. I was so happy there! I had great hopes to stay there for a really long time.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that I, once again, have another job on my resume. It looks awful to have so many jobs listed. The truth is, my three lay-offs this year were due to the economy, not my skills or abilities. At DCP, they are scaling back in all departments and not replacing people. Managers will have much more on their backs. I feel awful for my manager and co-workers who will have to take over my extremely busy work-load. I don’t know how they will do it!

What worries me even more are the bills I have to pay and the anguish of having to job hunt yet again. I thought I was set for a long time to come. I had a good salary, a fun (and busy) job, and I was happy. Right now, I am miserable. I am supposed to be excited about my vacation, but all I can think about is the fact that I will have to skimp on the vacation fun yet again, just like when I went to NC in May. It’s just so rough, very scary.

Please wish me luck. I hope I can find a job again really soon, one that pays well, one that I enjoy, and one that is close to home. 2008 sucks! I can’t wait til it’s over!!!!

Dec 12 2008

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So, I am sitting in my 70 degree apartment, and my toes are freezing! Guess what the weather will be like in Tahoe next week! See below:

Dec 14, 2008

I have no clue what I’m going to do about this! I’m very excited, but also a bit fearful that the cold will be a bit unbearable! I did get some warm stuff at REI though. I really love that store!!!!!

John & I are leaving on Saturday, driving North on 395 through the desert. Bobby’s watching the kitties. 🙂 I am very excited!
