So, I had an incredible interview today with BRC, and I really love the company. They have longevity, a creative and relaxed environment, and a great benefits package. Sadly, the position I have applied for is an entry level position. Though I know I would kick-ass at it, the pay goes along with the ‘entry level’ salary range. I don’t know what that is, but I have a feeling it might be $20K or more less than what I am used to living on.
With the economy in a shambles, Directors taking salary cuts and job cuts to Manager positions, is this my only option – to drop the salary I am accustomed to? Could I live on $20K less than I have been making? No. I can’t. I’d have to step up my photography business, but that’s not a guaranteed income.
I haven’t been offered the position, so it’s a bit premature to worry; but, I like to be prepared to make a decision if they call me. There is potential for growth, but only after a few years, as they want someone to stay in this position for years to come. I understand that, and I’d be completely comfortable with that if the salary was right. I really need to start thinking about my priorities.
I do really want the position, as I want to be a part of this company! I know the job would be easy, but could I survive on a huge salary cut? I really don’t know. I have done my budget a LOT, and the most I’ve been able to cut out is $6K. Eeek. I don’t think I could find a way to cut $20K. Ugh, I really hope they offer me a reasonable salary and call me soon! I would love this job! I am so conflicted.
