McCain / Palin – Land of the Damned

Isn’t this the land of the free? What happen to human rights and freedom of choice: religion and otherwise?

Seems that people with strict Christian morals have been leading the American people for far too long. We live in a very diverse country with lots of cultures, religions and ideals. Why does the Republican party always pick such religious junkies to run for office?! Yes, I know they have strong family values and “good morals,” but do they really represent the majority?

I know the Dem’s only represent 50% of the US population; but, they’ll at least leave it up to the people to decide whether or not to marry (same sex) or whether or not to have an abortion. The government should NOT decide for us! The Dem’s won’t veto human rights’ bills and enforce their moral views upon us! They will do whatever they can to help us thrive and survive!

Since 50% of the country does seem to be on the religious right, I know there IS the possibility of McCain and Palin getting into office. I’m very scared of the prospect of having someone in office that could take away a woman’s right to choose or gays’ rights to marry. I’m scared of having someone in power that will force religion deeper into government policy.

McCain’s running-mate, Palin, shares most of his beliefs. It makes no difference that she is a lot younger. The fact that she has no clue what the VP even does is someone disturbing; but, overall, I have no problem with her age and experience, and I am happy to see a woman running as a VP. The down side is that she is anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, and comes from a family of hunters (and hangs furs on her walls – helpless animals killed for “fun”). Above all else, how can she expect to handle the duties of being VP with an autistic baby girl at home, who will need constant love and care. Hiring a full time nanny (instead of raising your own child) isn’t very moral or loving in my opinion. She is very ethical when it comes to fighting corruption in government, which is good; but, there is too much about her views that I disagree with.

The last few elections have polls that show almost a 50% / 50% split between Red and Blue; therefore, in the minds of McCain and Palin, 50% of the Country is damned and going to hell because all those who vote Blue would put a person in office who would protect a woman’s right to choose and a gay’s right to be granted partnership rights!

My priorities: human rights (esp a woman’s right to choose and gay rights), environmental protection, health-care for ALL, and more jobs in the US that pay a livable wage!
