Comic-Con Revisited

John & I at Royal ThaiThis was my 2nd Comic-Con and it was even more fun than the first! Unfortunately, I am thoroughly zonked and wish I had a few more days to rest, as this was not a relaxing weekend by any stretch of the imagination.

On Thursday, we left our apartment with Rob (John’s brother) and Gina (Rob’s girlfriend) at 11:15am to head to breakfast and drive down to San Diego. This proved rather difficult. Gigantic Flying PikachuA Von’s truck had jack-knifed, fallen over and burst into flames near San Clemente, backing up traffic all the way to LA. We finally arrived at our hotel at 6:45pm. Wow, what a drive!

Rob & Gina ran into Con while John & I got settled into the room. Con registration closed at 7pm, so John & I never made it in. When Rob & Gina returned, we went to Royal Thai for dinner and drinks. Emma, Chris Starr & Emmett were also staying in room 1601 with us. Riding the UnicornIt was a very nice room!!!

On Friday, John & I headed over to the Con and started wandering the floor in the late morning. We met up with our friend Kelly for a bit (collecting Lego Joker pieces from various booths). Then, after a snack, we found Josh, Jul, Mike & Emmett. When I decided to Ride the Unicorn, I got separated from everyone, but ended up getting a glimpse of Keifer Sutherland on my way to find John! We spent most of the day on the Con floor, as my Ghostbusters Panel was canceled 🙁 I won a free Characature sketch from the Mega64 Comedy Troupe; Keifer Sutherlandand, on our way out, we saw Samuel L Jackson at the G4 booth! At the Con floor exit, we met up with Ricki & Erik for a few minutes before leaving for the day.

At night, John & I went to the Gas-lamp Tavern for some free shots on behalf of Behind Enemy Lines DVD release. We saw Neil Patrick Harris & Felicia Day walk by while we were at the bar. Wish we could have met them! After drinks, Jul, Josh & Mike met up with us for dinner. We ended up at Izzy’s. After dinner, we headed back to our room and called it a night. We were going to go to the Dr. Horrible Sing-A-Long, but it was full 3 hours before it started. Boo!!!

Futurama PanelOn Saturday, John & I got up early and got in line for Ballroom 20 (Futurama panel). Emmett met up with us. I was afraid I wasn’t getting in as the line was already outside and around the building over an hour before the panel begun. Luckily, we got in and the panel was hilarious! The Simpsons panel was next, and was almost as good.

SteampunkAt 12pm, John & I went to the Steampunk Meet Up. It was so crowded that they had to turn people away. It was a great meet up, and we learned a lot about how to get started making our own steamy-styled creations! We wandered the Con floor for a bit after that.

Around 2pm, John & I went went up to the Sails Pavillion to take a few photos of Tori Amos (for Paul). Then, we then got in line for Pushing Daisies. We barely made it in for that panel, but I am so glad we did. Pushing DaisiesIt was a great panel! Afterward, we got a few more shots of Tori, then wandered the Con floor some more. We met up with Kelly again for a bit, then went back to the Con floor to meet up with Rob & Gina. John bought me a Futurama / Star Wars print for my birthday! It’s beautiful. 🙂

Melanie & Sarah drove down that afternoon to hang out with Emma & Chris, and join the rest of us for dinner. In the evening, the lot of us all got transportation to Kemo Sabe in Hillcrest for the best meal of the weekend Tori Amosand some yummy drinks for my birthday! I had such a great time, and want to thank everyone for joining me and taking me out for my birthday!!! It was incredible!

After dinner, I was too drunk and tired to go to Lime, so we hung out at our hotel room and chatted for a bit til I passed out.

On Sunday, we all got up, showered and checked out of the Omni. I was sad to leave it… what a great hotel! We spent the day on the Con floor. I ran into Queenie and chatted with her for a bit. After a few hours, I was delirious, and couldn’t even walk straight. I was just so worn out from the weekend that I needed rest. Drunk Fett & Victorian VaderI went up to the Sails Pavilion and put my head down on a table. John met up with me and we went to the Fraggle Rock panel while Rob & Gina wandered the floor. It was great to see Red Fraggle in person! She was the only Fraggle there, but we did watch an episode of the show and had some sing-a-longs; so, it was really fun!

We left the Con just before 5pm, and headed home, having dinner at Souplantation in Laguna Niguel on the way back. Dessert at Kemo SabeIt’s nice to be home with the kitties, but I will miss the fun of Con and San Diego for sure!
